We are in the middle of Mercury Retrograde which most people associate with electronic hell and confusion in all kinds of communications. What many of us don’t know is that it is nature’s way of encouraging us to go inward, to stop trying to focus outward. This particular Mercury Retrograde is occurring at a time when it is still pretty dark outside–either gray from winter or early nights. We are being called to become quiet, to do less, and to deeply connect to our inner guidance.
Deepak Chopra and Oprah are starting a 21 day Meditation Challenge on March 11 and I think it is a perfect time for people to learn how to meditate and make it a part of their daily lives. Slowing down in our current times is challenging on its own. We really have no practice in slowing down unless we get sick and I believe that is why so many people are getting sick right now. We really must slow the pace, listen to our inner guidance and disconnect somewhat from all the news of the world.
I encourage you to literally write an appt into your calendar for a daily time to be quiet–if possible 30 minutes a day to start. ( Once you get the hang of this you will WANT to do it more) During that time simply shut off all electronic devices–all of them. I am laughing as I say ” simply turn off…” because it is not so simple. How many of us will feel a sense of panic? I encourage you to do it anyway and then try to simply sit quietly or walk in nature. No big “to dos”, simply being with yourself in the moment. If you feel ready for the challenge then by all means join in with Deepak and Oprah and begin to practice meditation. That would be just great! but in any case, look inward. Listen to the quiet.
If you allow yourself to do this regularly you will find that insights about what you might want to “do” next will arise. Clarity about what you really don’t want to “do” will also arise. You will be gently guided to what your heart wants for you. And you will be able to breathe deeply–which may feel foreign at first but oh so good. Here’s to you enjoying the experience of slowing down and simply “being”.
