There is never a time when friendships don’t matter, but during the holidays there is a special need for real friends. These are the times when we have all of the images of happy families and smiling groups of people on cards, television and in magazines, and it feels so good to know that we too have that in our lives.
My friends are so special to me and the gift of their friendship is something that I appreciate every single day. Knowing that someone truly knows me, and cares about me is so empowering and uplifting. If I am actually struggling with some major life event I know that my friends will help me to move through the time with support and love. The rest of the time is spent laughing and encouraging each other to be the best we can be, to celebrate our successes and to develop new goals and dreams.
Friendships take time and significant effort to develop. It takes the time to build trust, and to really listen to the heart’s yearnings of a person and then to reach out to help them reach their desires. It takes having misunderstandings and working through them, developing an even greater level of trust. Both people learn that it is safe to be in close relationship and over time it is pure joy. Take the time and effort to truly connect deeply with someone in your life. Let the strength of that connection move your more deeply into who you really are. Allow the mask to fall away, and your true self to shine. Here’s to friendship and love.
